It’s kind of ironic that as an artist/illustrator, I actually don’t draw that much at all.  I used to draw all the time, mostly out of boredom… and to waste time during high school classes (haha), but after I got into art school, I drew less and less in my spare time. When I was moving and packing up all my old artwork, I was astounded at my old sketchbooks. The one from freshman year was packed. The one from sophomore year was only half full, leaving the rest of the pages blank. After junior year, I barely kept a sketchbook. I’d stopped sketching completely and would dive right into drawings on the computer. A very bad habit.

I read somewhere that school (maybe art school in particular) takes what you love and sucks all the passion out of it. It may not be true for everyone, but I feel like it’s true for me. I hope now that I’ve graduated, I can spend more time drawing and rekindling that passion.

So of course, I started by drawing cats. ;) Of course, my cat chose that exact same moment to decide she wasn’t getting enough attention and took a nap directly between me and the sketchbook. So I just drew her instead.
