A peek into my office, where all the “magic” happens. It’s a little messy… and I share an office with Nick, so there his toys are everywhere. But one day, I’ll have an office of my very own!

Also, I signed up for BlogLovin on this account too!

Hi-Fructose Book Signing

Nick and I went to the Hi-Fructose book signing at SFMOMA last night. Hi-Fructose is my FAVORITE art magazine of all time. Not only do I love the artists they showcase, but I think the design of the magazine itself is so adorable and unique.

Above: Me posing with the Hi-Fructose book. One of Audrey Kawasaki’s paintings is on the cover, yay!

I was SUPER excited for this event because Audrey Kawasaki, one of my favorite artists (and one that I will be showcasing on this blog eventually), was going to be there. I’d always wanted to meet her and I finally got my chance! She was so cute and sweet, and I was all weird and nervous… hahaha! We did talk a little bit, and I told her that my sloth tattoo was very loosely based off of a painting she’d done a while ago. She said both tattoos looked great, which made me all giddy. I’m such a nerd around people I idolize. She probably thought I was crazy.

I asked her if I could take a picture of her… like a creeper… She was like, “Just me…?” Yes, Audrey. JUST YOU. <3

Anyway, it was really fun! Nick got to talk to Attaboy, one of the founders and editors-in-chief of the magazine. He was really surprised we actually read the magazine. I’m not really sure why… Do people only look at the pictures? I EVEN READ THE ADVERTISEMENTS. But I’m a magazine nut, so I’m weird that way.

Funny thing is, we were SO late to the event because Nick had to get home from work, I had to get ready, then there were all these plumber problems (long story), and then we got slightly lost driving over there… We finally made it there at about 7:45pm, and the event was supposed to end at 8:30. There were so many people in line that they actually closed the doors at 8:00pm, so we BARELY made it in and were the last people in line before they started turning people away. So awesome. Understandable though, because even getting in line at 7:45, it wasn’t until 9:00 that we reached the front of the line and got our book signed. And standing in line that long with 4 inch heels on… is not that much fun. Me and my poor shoe decisions…

It’s kind of ironic that as an artist/illustrator, I actually don’t draw that much at all. I used to draw all the time, mostly out of boredom… and to waste time during high school classes (haha), but after I got into art school, I drew less and less in my spare time. When I was moving and packing up all my old artwork, I was astounded at my old sketchbooks. The one from freshman year was packed. The one from sophomore year was only half full, leaving the rest of the pages blank. After junior year, I barely kept a sketchbook. I’d stopped sketching completely and would dive right into drawings on the computer. A very bad habit.

I read somewhere that school (maybe art school in particular) takes what you love and sucks all the passion out of it. It may not be true for everyone, but I feel like it’s true for me. I hope now that I’ve graduated, I can spend more time drawing and rekindling that passion.

So of course, I started by drawing cats. ;) Of course, my cat chose that exact same moment to decide she wasn’t getting enough attention and took a nap directly between me and the sketchbook. So I just drew her instead.

Whisker Thoughts

Hi everyone! I started a new blog/Tumblr that is less artwork-related and more about my personal day-to-day life, shopping, cats, cooking, etc. etc. I don’t like cluttering up the Milkbunnie blog with inane stuff I find on the internet and my random blabbering, so I had to create another outlet for those kinds of things!

It is tentatively called Whisker Thoughts (a lovely suggestion from my friend, Sarah), and tentatively can be reached at http://amyamok.tumblr.com, though I am thinking of using a milkbunnie.com URL for it.

We’ll see.

Oh, COLOURlovers, our passionate love affair can now be renewed, now that I’ve been introduced to the BEST POSSIBLE WAY EVER of saving and revisiting my favorite color palettes. Needless to say, I am now obsessed with collecting palettes.

Back from the dead?

Sorry, I have been very bad and not posting new entries at all. FOR SHAME! I do have good excuses though! The Gold Coast Art Fair finally rolled around and I was insanely busy with that… then of course, I had to pack up or sell all of my worldly possessions to move halfway across the country, from Chicago to San Francisco! Then of course, came the unpacking and settling in… Well, the list goes on. I still feel terrible for neglecting Milkbunnie, and whoever is reading this is welcome to pelt me with stones if you feel the need. I prefer a virtual stoning over a real life one, but that’s just me. ;)

Anyhow, I am back and almost completely settled into my amazing house in the SF Bay Area. I am living in a town called Millbrae, which is a 20 minute drive from downtown San Francisco. I actually grew up here, for the most part, so it’s a little weird and nostalgic to be back, but very exciting nonetheless! It is also wonderful to have a house to call my own, although I don’t exactly have the means to decorate it the way I’d like. As soon as the house is presentable, I will put up some pictures!

As for the Gold Coast Art Fair… It was definitely a crazy three days. I met some amazing people, made some new friends, had lots of fun with my tent partner (Kate, of KMH Jewelry), and sold a lot of work! It was a great learning experience and I can’t wait to participate in something like the Renegade Craft Fair or something when I get the chance. Here are some pictures…

Oops! I completely forgot to post about this last week, but the phone charms are now in stock! You can buy them directly from milkbunnie.com (click SHOP)! They are super cute, durable, easy to clean, unlikely to break, and completely waterproof. The charms are $5 each, but if you buy one of each, you’ll save $1 on each charm, making them $4 each. :3
I’m pretty in love with them so far, and I have a couple extra charms lying around, so I am making them into earrings! I need to get some new earring hooks, but they will be at the Gold Coast Art Fair on Aug. 20, 21, & 22. It is very unlikely they’ll be available online, though… sorry!
In celebration, I’ll be hosting a NEW giveaway! (YAYYY!) This is more Facebook-centric, so if you don’t have a Facebook account… I’m sorry. See the Milkbunnie Facebook page for more details: http://www.facebook.com/milkbunnie

It’s my birthday today! (Well, yesterday, since it is now 12:30 AM…) I’ve been away from the computer (how refreshing!) for a few days and spending all my time at Lollapalooza instead! My boyfriend got us both tickets a long time ago when he got his full-time job. Unfortunately, now that August has rolled around, we are all broke again. Oh well…
Anyway, Lollapalooza was AMAZING, to say the least. Lady Gaga was by far the highlight of my weekend? My week? My month? My summer? My entire life?! I can’t even count how many stage and costume changes she went through. Mind-blowing. Her piano rendition of “Speechless” made me cry. Okay, I’ll stop blabbering about how obsessed I am with Gaga now.
ON TO THE REAL POINT OF THIS POST: One of the vendors at the Green Street Market in Lollapalooza was Michael Michael Motorcycle. He had some GORGEOUS screenprints for sale that I just could not pass up. I love his aesthetic and the amount of detail in the prints!
I stumbled across his booth on the first day, couldn’t decide what to get because I loved everything, and left. I went back the second day, still couldn’t decide, and left. Then he chased me down the street to tell me how much he loved my fennec fox tattoo because he & his wife LOVED foxes. I promised I would come back and actually buy something! So at the end of the day, I decided that I wanted at least two posters and hopefully not spend over $30. Unfortunately, all my favorites were $200+. Sigh. I really wanted that Bright Eyes poster up there… because I’m really obsessed with cats, but A GIRL’S GOT A BUDGET! So I ended up getting an Eisley poster (love them) and a New Found Glory poster (um, I don’t like them, but the art was amazing and it was $5).
Anyway, Nick and I talked to him and his wife for a while, mostly about screenprinting and facilities, etc. They were both such genuine, lovely people. They told us about the best way to set up a printing facility at home, techniques… His wife even showed me a program for running credit card purchases from a cell phone, which is going to be HUGELY helpful in two weeks. It was so great to meet people so supportive, helpful, and inspiring, which made Lollapalooza an even better experience than it already was.
Point is, both of them are fantastic. He is a talented artist, and you should check him out! Here’s a link again! http://www.michaelmichaelmotorcycle.com/
XOXO!

I finished the remodel for the Milkbunnie website today! I’m really happy with it! I think it’s a big improvement on the last two versions, even though my web design skills are a little outdated…
I even added a Shop section to the website! It uses the PayPal shopping cart system, which I’ve always found a little annoying, but there’s no way I can code my own shopping cart system, haha. At least I won’t have to rely on Etsy for sales anymore, which is a huge plus in my opinion. I don’t think I’ll be getting rid of the Etsy shop anytime soon, but it’s definitely going to take a back seat to the shop on the main website.

Milkbunnie prints for sale!

All four Milkbunnie prints are now available for purchase in my Etsy store! (Click to shop!) You can buy them now, or wait until the Gold Coast Art Fair on August 20, 21, and 22.

I don’t really like Etsy all that much. I mean, I LOVE it as a customer, but I’ve never really been fond of it as a seller. Sometime this summer, I will work on redoing my website again, and I will try to incorporate a PayPal shopping cart system on the website! :)
